
As part of the UniCare (UOSSM) Board’s visit to Syria, Dr. Anas Al-Kassem, Board Member of UOSSM Canada, conducted a series of field visits and high-level engagements focused on strengthening healthcare delivery and expanding sustainable services across the country.
Community Needs Assessment in Darayya
The visit began with a comprehensive needs assessment in Darayya, aimed at evaluating the feasibility of establishing a new healthcare facility to serve the local population. This assessment focused on gaps in access to care, infrastructure requirements, and priority health services—laying the groundwork for future healthcare development in the area.
Visiting UOSSM-Supported Healthcare Facilities
Dr. Al-Kassem then visited multiple healthcare centers run and operated by UOSSM International and UOSSM Canada, including:
These site visits allowed for direct assessment of service delivery, operational capacity, and opportunities to further strengthen care for vulnerable communities.
High-Level Engagement with the Ministry of Social Affairs
Concluding the visit, Dr. Al-Kassem met with the Honourable Hind Kabawat, Minister of Social Affairs and Labour of Syria. The meeting focused on the future development of UOSSM’s work in Syria, with productive discussions on expanding humanitarian and healthcare initiatives across multiple provinces in close coordination with the Ministry.
