Integrated Nutrition & Medical Support for Vulnerable Communities in Syria
(2025)

UOSSM Canada is addressing urgent health and nutrition needs across Syria through multiple life-saving initiatives. With millions living in poverty and half of hospitals non-functional, access to care for children, mothers, and displaced families remains critically limited.

  • Homs Nutrition Project: A 3-month intervention targeting 300 children under five and 175 pregnant/lactating women with malnutrition screening, treatment, and nutrition counseling. Mothers are trained in the Family MUAC approach, empowering communities to detect and respond to malnutrition early.
  • Medical Missions: In northern Syria, UOSSM deployed Canadian and local surgeons to perform 534 consultations and 116 ophthalmic & ENT surgeries in just five days at Al-Hikma Hospital. Alongside surgeries, 40 local trainees received hands-on capacity-building workshops.
  • Maternal & Child Health Hospital (NW Syria): Equipped with new medical supplies to support inpatient and surgical wards with a capacity of 80 beds, this hospital will provide maternal, pediatric, and general surgery services to an estimated 10,000 women and children per month.

Through these programs, UOSSM Canada is saving lives while strengthening Syria’s fragile health system — ensuring access to nutrition, surgery, and specialized maternal and child care in areas most affected by conflict.
