Child and Maternity Hospital Hit by Airstrikes Three Times

A Syria Relief child and maternity hospital in Idlib was targeted yesterday at 1:05 p.m. Damascus time, by three airstrikes causing extensive damage to the facility. No fatalities or serious injuries were reported. At least five medical staff were wounded including a gynecologist and an anesthesiologist who were in the middle of an operation when the hospital was attacked. The doctor was able to quickly sew the mother up, and the patient and baby were not harmed in the attack. The hospital was put out of service. Please click here to read the full press release.

UOSSM Hospital Treats 114 People From Convoy Attack In Al Rashideen

UOSSM staff have been working tirelessly to treat 114 people injured from the convoy attack Saturday, in Al Rashideen. 114 of the 273 people injured were transferred to UOSSM’s largest hospital in the North of Syria for emergency care.  The transferred patients included over 20 children and 53 women. Five children succumbed to their injuries.  UOSSM provided treatment to all patients and referred critical cases to specialized hospitals in Turkey. UOSSM had 10 ambulances dedicated to the evacuation efforts. Several NGO staff were injured by the blast including two UOSSM staff. Please click here to read the full press release.

Nurse Killed in Hospital Attack in Dael, Daraa

One nurse was killed, and several staff were wounded yesterday in an attack on a hospital in Dael, Daraa. The hospital was hit by airstrikes at 1:30 a.m. on April 9, 2017, destroying an ambulance, damaging the hospital and putting it out of service. A five day old baby also succumbed to injuries on Friday April 7 after being exposed to a chemical agent attack (chlorine suspected) on Monday, April 3. Approximately 100 Killed and 400 injured in Chemical Weapon Attack in Khan Sheikhoun, Idlib

Today, at approximately 6:30 a.m. Damascus time, warplanes dropped a chemical weapon on the neighborhood of Khan Sheikhoun in southern Idlib, killing approximately 100 people, including at least 25 children, and injuring at least 400. Three UOSSM medical staff were affected by the attack, while treating patients, and rushed to the ICU.

Doctors Warn of Intensifying Airstrikes on Syrian Hospitals

Ahead of the Brussels Conference on Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region, Syrian doctors have released a new report documenting a major increase in airstrikes on Syrian hospitals and medical facilities in opposition-held areas. The study, issued by the Union of Medical Care and Relief Organizations, examines the conditions of 107 hospitals in northern and southern Syria and reveals that all were hit by airstrikes at least once in 2016 – some as many as 25 times.


Chemical Weapon Attack in Latamneh, Hama Injures 70, Including Medical Staff

The Latamneh area in the suburbs of Hama was hit today by an airstrike which deployed a chemical weapons agent. At least 70 civilians, including medical personnel, were injured from exposure to the chemical agent. Patients were taken to area hospitals and were experiencing the following symptoms: nausea, agitation, foaming of the mouth, muscle spasms, and pinpoint pupils. Two patients went into cardiac arrest. Medical Facility In Kafr Nabudah, Hama, Attacked and Put Out of Service

A UOSSM supported medical facility in Hama was put out of service today after it was hit by a rocket. The UOSSM Kafr Nabudah Medical Facility was attacked at approximately 1:30 p.m. Damascus time, causing damage to the building, and putting it out of service. There was one minor injury to a staff member. This is one of may attacks against hospitals and medical facilities in the past month. Please click here to read the full press release.

Syrian Doctor Killed By Chemical Weapon While Operating On Patient

A doctor was killed today while he was operating on a patient. Dr. Ali Darwish, an orthopedic specialist was operating as the Latamneh Hospital was attacked with a chemical agent. Dr. Darwish was aware of the chemical agent but refused to leave his patient until he succumbed to the fumes and passed out and later died. Please click here to read the full press release.

Measles Outbreak in Ghouta; Five Hospital Attacks in Nine Days

There has been an alarming rise in cases of the measles in Ghouta, Syria. According to EWARN, there have been 121 cases in the past two months, compared to 50 cases in the past two years.
