UOSSM PHC and Office Attacked in Ghouta; Doctors Describe Attacks as Mass Hysteria

A UOSSM Primary Health Care Center in Misraba and a UOSSM office in Hammouria, were hit under a wave of attacks on hospitals, buildings and “anything standing” in eastern Ghouta in the past 24 hours. No casualties were reported as all medical centers in the area were shut down due to heavy shelling and airstrikes. The bombardment has caused most of the inhabitants of the areas to be displaced into other parts of the city. An area doctor who chose to remain unnamed said, “Hammouria is under massive attacks causing a state of mass hysteria as every building is being bombed one by one, wiping out the entire area. The area has turned into a ghost town as everyone in the area has been displaced and all medical facilities were attacked.” Please click here to read the full press release. 


Reports of a Chemical Attack in Eastern Ghouta Affects at Least 50

Reports from doctors inside Ghouta are indicating there was a chlorine attack in Saqba and Hammouria in eastern Ghouta today around 9 p.m. Damascus time. According to the White Helmets, at least 50 civilians have been affected by the suspected gas, although area doctors are saying at least 100 have been affected. Dr. Imad Qabbani from Rural Damascus Health Directorate confirmed the suspected chlorine attack saying, “Due to the heavy bombardment mobility is impossible. At least two locations were targeted, our Health Directorate will issue a statement later about this attack.”
Affected victims are experiencing symptoms consistent with chlorine gas inhalation including: wheezing, hypoxia, coughing, dyspnea, and conjunctival erythema; there are no changes in the victims' pupils. Reported Chemical Attack Injures 32

There are reports of a chemical attack today in eastern Ghouta injuring 32, among them were 15 children, 13 women, four men and two civil defense workers (White Helmets). 
A barrel bomb filled with suspected chlorine gas was dropped on Hammouria in eastern Ghouta at 11p.m. Damascus time. Victims reported symptoms consistent with the choking agent chlorine gas, including coughing, sore throat and redness of eyes, there were no severe respiratory symptoms. No fatalities were reported.
In additon, 94 Civilians were killed today by heavy airstrikes while the first aid convoy entered eastern Ghouta in months. Among those killed was a dentist, Dr. Ahmad Wahbah. Please click here to read the full press release.

UN Security Council Ceasefire Violated; Two Hospitals Attacked; 20 Killed

Less than 24 hours after the UN Security Council Resolution 2401 passed for a 30 day emergency cessation of hostilities in Syria, two medical facilities were attacked, at least 20 civilians were killed, and over 70 others were wounded. 
 
The two medical facilities in Eastern Ghouta were hit by airstrikes, heavily damaged and put out of service on this morning. There were no casualties. At least 20 civilians were killed in other areas of Ghouta as an aerial bombardment continued to pound civilian areas. Third Day Of Bombings Traps Civilians in Rubble; Aid Agencies Desperate

The death toll continues to rise as the relentless indiscriminate campaign continues against eastern Ghouta. There were 70 civilians killed today and over 296 wounded. A total of 13 hospitals and humanitarian facilities were also targeted, leaving thousands in a humanitarian catastrophe.

BREAKING: UOSSM Staff Killed, 8 Medical Facilities Attacked, Illegal Barrel Bombs Used

A UOSSM staff member, Abdul Rahman Ismail, was killed today in Ghouta. Abdul Rahman said in his last voice mail to UOSSM staff minutes before he was killed, “I am right in an area with a safe shelter and there is a hospital, but truthfully speaking it is absolutely terrible, airstrikes and barrels dropping like crazy, we don’t even have time to count them, or whether we should count them or to just run away. “
Eight medical facilities were attacked today in eastern Ghouta, for a total of 13 hospital attacks in 48 hours. Reports state there have been over 127 airstrikes, illegal barrels, and countless mortars and artillery strikes today. This has paralyzed the already crippled medical infrastructure in Ghouta. BREAKING: New Bombing Campaign In Ghouta Hits Five Hospitals; Could Be One of Worst in Syrian History

A fierce bombardment began this morning in civilian areas of eastern Ghouta with at least 72 airstrikes. At least 97 civilians have been killed and over 500 wounded in 24 hours and the number is set to climb, as many may still be buried under the rubble. Five hospitals were bombed and put out of service and all area hospitals are out of service due to the attacks. Dr. Asem from one of the area hospitals said, “The situation is catastrophic, people have nowhere to turn. They are trying to survive but their hunger from the siege has weakened them significantly.”

Attack on Idlib Hospital Suffocates Newborn Babies as Incubators Lose Power

Several medical facilities have been attacked and put out of service since Sunday, causing newborn babies to temporarily suffocate as their incubators lost power.The attacks left thousands with no access to medical care, as Idlib experienced fierce bombardment, including a reported chlorine gas attack. Fortified Cave Hospital Damaged by Targeted Attack in Hama; Third Chemical Attack in Ghouta Injures 11

A few hours ago, at 12:15 p.m. Damascus time, the Al Maghara (Dr. Hassan Al Araj) Cave Hospital in Kafr Zita, Hama was hit by five missiles from an airstrike. The hospital, built under 60 feet of rock, suffered extensive damage throughout the building. 

In addition, there was a reported chlorine gas attack in Douma in Ghouta at 5:30 a.m. Damascus time, injuring eleven including women and children, and one Syrian Civil Defense (White Helmet) emergency responder. The victims smelled like chlorine and were having difficulty breathing, indicative of chlorine gas. This was the third chemical attack in Ghouta in 2018.
