Gaza Fundraising Event Raises Support for Children Facing Starvation
On September 27, 2025, UOSSM Canada hosted an urgent fundraising event in solidarity with the people of Gaza. With hospitals collapsing, food disappearing, and medical supplies running out, Gaza is facing a famine-level crisis. Tens of thousands of children are suffering from acute malnutrition, and we must act.
This emergency event was organized to raise life-saving funds for the Malnutrition Department at Al-Rantisi Children’s Hospital in Gaza, the only pediatric center of its kind still operating. Donations will directly support nutrition programs, medical supplies, and essential treatment for children in critical need.
Attendees heard powerful testimonies and urgent calls to action from humanitarian leaders who have witnessed the crisis firsthand, including:
- Dr. Anas Al-Kassem
- Dr. Aliya Khan
In solidarity with the families of Gaza, only light refreshments were served during the event. The focus was on standing together as a community to bring hope, medical relief, and nutrition to Gaza’s children.
Gaza’s Medical Emergency
Gaza is experiencing a severe medical emergency. Hospitals are overwhelmed as children arrive with symptoms of acute malnutrition. Many are underweight, dehydrated, and in urgent need of therapeutic feeding programs. Doctors report a sharp rise in cases, in some hospitals, malnutrition has increased by more than 600% in the past year.
The collapse of food systems has left patients and healthcare workers struggling to survive. Hospitals such as Al-Rantisi Children’s Hospital, the only pediatric center of its kind still operating, face critical shortages of supplies while treating some of the sickest children in Gaza.
Hospitals in Crisis
Healthcare facilities across Gaza require constant support to continue operating. Each hospital needs at least 1,000 meals per day to feed patients and staff. Without proper nutrition, both children in recovery and the medical teams caring for them are at risk of collapse.
UOSSM Canada, in partnership with international organizations including the WHO, is working to maintain essential nutrition treatment programs. These efforts include the delivery of therapeutic foods, daily hospital meals, and medications that help prevent complications from malnutrition.
The Impact on Children
Children are the most vulnerable in this crisis. Many have lost access to basic healthcare and adequate nutrition. Hospitals are reporting unprecedented numbers of pediatric patients with severe acute malnutrition, requiring specialized care and therapeutic feeding to survive.
Malnutrition weakens the immune system, leaving children at risk of life-threatening infections. Without urgent intervention, thousands of young lives are in jeopardy.
“Each hospital in Gaza requires at least 1,000 meals per day at a cost of $5.50 per meal, $5,500 daily, to sustain patients and prevent malnutrition.”
How You Can Help
UOSSM Canada is committed to continuing its work at Al-Rantisi Children’s Hospital and other facilities across Gaza. This includes:
- Operating the Malnutrition Department to treat children suffering from severe hunger.
- Providing 1,000 hospital meals daily for patients and healthcare workers.
- Delivering essential medicines and therapeutic foods to hospitals.
- Supporting frontline doctors and nurses with resources to continue their life-saving work.
These programs are only possible with your support. Every donation helps provide nutrition, treatment, and hope to Gaza’s children and families in need.
